Can you believe there are only four months left in the year? Every September, I feel the shift—trips to Apple Hill, crisp air, Friday night football, and all the cozy seasonal goodness that makes this time of year so special. But beyond the pumpkin spice and sweaters, September has always felt like a new beginning to me.
I like to think of it as my “New Year,” a chance to pause, reflect, and set myself up for the months ahead.
Why September Feels Like a Fresh Start
For many of us, September marks a transition—back to school routines, shifting seasons, and the return of structure after the free-flow of summer. It’s a natural reset button. And since the last part of the year often flies by (holidays, events, busy schedules), being intentional now makes all the difference.
Instead of waiting until January, why not treat September as a mini New Year and realign your focus?
Simple Ways to Set Yourself Up for a Strong Finish
Here are a few ways I like to reset in September:
- Schedule a coffee date with yourself. Take time to reflect, dream, and write out what matters most this season.
- Find an accountability partner. Whether it’s a friend, spouse, or co-worker, planning alongside someone makes it easier to stay on track.
- Highlight key weeks. Look at your calendar and block out important dates, trips, and deadlines—before life gets too busy.
- Ask for help. You don’t have to carry everything yourself—delegate tasks at home and work.
- Plan downtime and fun. In my busy household, if it’s not on the calendar, it doesn’t happen. Don’t just plan work—plan joy too!
My September Challenge to You
This month, carve out intentional time to reflect and plan. Think about the goals you want to carry across the finish line, the habits you’d like to strengthen, and the small changes that will make your days flow smoother.
When you give yourself the gift of planning, you take back control of your time, energy, and peace of mind.
